The fresh water
The river Västerdalälven’s fresh water is a good enough reason to participate in Challenge Vansbro. Västerdalälven has its source at the mountain Fulufjället in northern Dalarna and is a part of Sweden’s third longest river, Dalälven.

The festival
Challenge Vansbro is a part of Vansbrosimningen, an event that takes place during two weekends in july, the height of the Swedish summer. During Vansbrosimningen about 13,000 participants come to Vansbro together with their loved ones and other visiting spectators. Enjoy the atmospeher in the arena, eat well in the restaurant tent and go shopping in the sports tent!

The variation
During Vansbrosimningens two weekends there are 13 different races to choose from. Everything from 25 meters in pool for the kids to 10,000 meters in open water, and of course triathlon. The first weekend is our Challenge weekend with Challenge Middle distance and olympic distance but also Vansbro 10k (10km swim) and Vansbro Öppen Älv (3km swim).

The tradition
Vansbrosimningen started already in 1950 when the good friends Mats Qvarfot and Einar Anselius sat at the shore and made plans for a propaganda swim which eventually became Vansbrosimningen 3km. The propaganda swim with 10 participants (1950) has evolved to one of the largest open water events in the world and by 2023 we’ll have 11 races on our menu. If you want to experience the wings of history, you should definitely participate in the races arranged by Vansbrosimningen!

The security
At Vansbrosimningen, the participants and thus the safety always go first. We want you to feel safe all the way from start to finish and strive for this by having:
- Jetties along the course
- Volunteers who supervise the participants from the jetties
- Competition doctor on site
- Rented ambulances on stand by
- A mobile health center at the arena
- Heat tent after finish

The race – A professional nature experience
Challenge Vansbro, former Vansbro Triahtlon, is one of Sweden’s highest ranked triathlon competitions among triathletes’ themselves. One of its many appreciated characteristics is the tight race venue with all transitions at the same place, just a few meters from the river.
The race starts in river Västerdalälven with fresh water, straight from the mountains. We have jetties along the course manned with volunteers for your safety during the swim. The second leg of the race take place in the east bound roads surrounded by forests, rivers and red cottages on a fast and flat course.
The running course is a two lap route that takes place in the city of Vansbro. Our friendly volunteers and the inhabitants will cheer you along the course.

Swedish summer
Every year we order sunshine and at least 18 degrees in the water but, no, it may not always be as we imagined it. Regardless of whether the rain is like rods in the river, the birch leaves rock in the wind or the sun warms your forehead, you will certainly experience the Swedish summer for real with endless nights where it feels like the sun never sets.
